Intended learning outcomes

To develop competence in the design of biomedical devices by applying knowledge of optoelectronics, electronics and computing.

Introduce basic concepts of biophysics to understand the origin and characteristics of several biomedical signals, in particular electrophysiological signals, blood pressure waveforms, and plethysmography signals. Recognize key aspects related to medical device standardization, certification and legislation.

Understand the internal functioning of the most common medical devices for the diagnosis and monitoring of the cardiovascular and nervous systems, in particular in what concerns sensors, electronics, optoelectronics and computational tools.

Being able to describe recent advances and research lines to develop medical devices, in particular involving sensors, electronics, optics and photonics.
